The Muse Book Shop will be hosting Paul Dudley Bishop (www.pauldudleybishop.com).
A former DeLand resident paul is best known for his etchings and prints of Florida Birds and landscapes. He has also published a number of books: The Florida Years, a book iof wild bird etchings; Vanishing ecosystems of Florida, a color and study guide about four major Florida ecosystems: Stone is a Thing We Do Not Remember, poetry and prose about the south in the 60′s.

World Book Night

April 23rd is World Book Night and I need volunteers to give books away. It started in England last year and this year the US will join in the one night book giveaway.

This is how it works. Go to www.worldbooknight.org and register to be a volunteer book giver. Pick out the book you want to give away and they will send 20 copies to The Muse. This is free of charge.

You must agree to give the books away on April 23rd. But, you must sign up by February 1.

The week before April 23rd I will have a reception at the Muse Book Shop where you can come to pick up your books. Should be fun, so lets inundate DeLand with free books.

What I’m Reading Now

Just finished “Pure” by Julianna Baggott. I must be in an Armagedon mode, as at home I am also reading “One Second After”. Pure is a story that takes place after the”Detonation”. Where people who were left outside the Dome were subjected to a blast where, if they were not killed, they were fused with some object and disfigured. The outsiders are referred to a wretches, and the insiders are referred to as Pures. It is the intention of the “Pures”, to cleanse the land and rebuild with a superior race. But things don’t quite go according to plan and their “recoding” is having negative health side effects. The director of the Pures needs the medical help of the wife he left outside. Partridge, his surviving son, thought his mother was dead but clues point to the possibility that she may be alive. He must escape the Dome to search for her.

Enjoyed the book, but not the ending – obviously there will be a sequel. I would suggest waiting for the sequel and reading them together.

‘One Second After’ is a what if scenerio. 1 to 3 nuclear bombs are detonated in the atmosphere over the United States releasing an Electro Magnetic Pulse. Everything electronic is fried. No transportation, no communication, no water, no refrigeration. Anyone who was unlucky enough to be in an airplane at the time was spared the panic that is soon to follow.

This Friday 6 to 9 PM will be “Passport” Friday.

Pick up your Art Walk Passport at any Art Walk Location, then visit 10 locations that night to be eligible for “MainStreet Dollars”. Get your Art Walk Passport signed or stamped at at least 10 of the 20 Art Walk Locations and we will enter you in for a drawing for “MainStreet Dollars”. You may leave your passport at any Art Walk Location. Drawing will take place at 6PM December 2nd. Need not be present to win.
